You are so awesome, and a true educator! Thanks so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience with fellow colleagues. I am a Master Reading Teacher who has had to return to the classroom in elementary school. I also began an adventure two years ago teaching Developmental Reading at a local Junior College. Your experience and ideas are a godsend to me. Thank you!

I am a first time visitor to this blog site. I am very impressed as a fellow educator. I actually went through a course using Because Writing Matters as our resource. I will certainly be back to this site to keep up to date and fresh on this!

I'm back :)

I used this form with my class for their recent speeches. It worked really well! It is so straight-forward and clear. They knew exactly what to do.

This is a concise non-threatening document with great visuals that I would love to share with my 6-8th grade teachers and students that are getting bombarded by vague rubrics from so much on-demand writing that is not true writing. They need to be reminded that it is developmental and also individual. Our students need to see that their ability to write should not be defined by a score or category but rather still by where they are on what Richard Gentry calls the literacy map. How can I get a copy?

Yes, I believe in all things "ish" as the beginning, the getting there. My dad, who emigrated here from South America over 40 years ago, retains a slight accent. He has always said, in that treasured Spanish voice, "one can do, little by little." It's been a mantra for me, as a teacher, a mother, a writer. Admitting to myself that I too am often "ishy" helps me recognize what I still need to learn. Thanks for a great post!

I just love your site. I have found so many things here that I can go back and use the next day in my Writing Workshop. The Mentor Text lessons are practical and easy to use. They are fast. They follow best practices and it's easy to tell you have been metored by some of the best. I'm guessing Graves, Fletcher, Avery, Murray...am I right? I have sent this site address to a host of my friends. I hope they visit. Do you sell your book online? Do you take requests for particaulr lessons?
