Winter Sun

Drinking in Winter rays
Faded memories materialize.
Through delicate yellow sunbeams
I gaze upon my poplar tree.
The Winter sun transports me
Through a soft
Shimmering portal
Of golden Winter rays.
Memories embrace me.
The veracity of your colors
Paint a mural of my life.
Winter Sun, I will celebrate with you
The teasing and romancing
Of the memories of my youth.
By November I anticipate and
Patiently, I wait.
I’m sure you’ll come again.
Something familiar tugs at me.

You rouse my spirit.
My body is restless.
Time to assess my life.
I look back, I look ahead.
I love to see what you do
To the colors of my life.
Reflective and a bit melancholy
I yearn to embrace you again.
Perhaps we’ll meet at granddad’s millpond
Or in the grove of tall hickories.
I’m grateful and peaceful,
Walking through the meadow.
I will linger here awhile longer.
Come warm me Winter Sun
Before you leave, yet once again.
